In the midst of our 6th straight year in a drought, conserving water should be on everyone’s minds. As for commercial properties, California is cracking down on them and water conservation. For them, they need to think of every possible way they can conserve nature’s most precious resource, WATER! It should be no surprise to anyone that resorts, apartment complexes, universities, water parks and high-rise buildings are some of the biggest users of water. That’s why they are so heavily regulated by the state and one of the main reasons why Cal Lutheran University called us to recycle their 780,000 gallon swimming pool. They reached out to us because of the volume of the swimming pool, the fact that they didn’t want to waste 780,000 gallons of water by draining it and another 780,000 gallons of water by filling it up. Not to mention, all the downtime with the swimming pool too!

Commercial swimming pools are highly regulated because of calcium hardness, total dissolved solids (TDS) and cyanuric acid (CYA). They were faced with doing something with their swimming pool water because their TDS was extremely high and their calcium was moderately high. Instead of being shut down because of high TDS, they called us to help. At Pool Water Recycling we have a mobile filtration system that is equipped with Reverse Osmosis (RO) membranes to lower the following issues:

  • Calcium hardness
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Cyanuric Acid (CYA)
  • Phosphates
  • Salts
  • Waterborne diseases
  • So much more

Since we are mobile, we come to you and take care of your water hardness issues. Our mobile filtration trailer is equipped with two sets of hoses that enter the swimming pool. One hose is the intake that takes swimming pool water into our trailer where RO membranes lower the above issues. The other hose (out take) returns drinking quality water back to the swimming pool. When we started this project about a month ago, Cal Lutheran was dealing with this for their initial chemistry:

  • Calcium hardness — 650 parts per million (ppm)
  • TDS – 13,370 ppm
  • CYA – 0 ppm
  • Salt – 8790 ppm

After filtering this pool for about a month we are currently seeing the following numbers:

  • Calcium hardness – 350 ppm
  • TDS – 5820 ppm
  • CYA – 0 ppm
  • Salt – 3878 ppm

We are looking at about another week or so at this swimming pool. By using our service, they will conserve roughly 85% of the existing water in the swimming pool, they can use the pool while we are filtering and we will be providing them with a better end product than a typical drain and refill.
