Alternatives To Draining A Swimming Pool

Have you ever walked into a pool store, handed them your pool water and after one test they said, “It’s time to drain your swimming pool?” DON’T!

Even though we feel strongly about not draining a swimming pool, here are your options:

One option and most common are to drain and refill but by using Orange County’s fill water it is already loaded with calcium, magnesium and other hardness minerals so that’s the biggest reason why we feel this is not the best option. It also takes 2-3 days depending on the size of your pool and can be dangerous to drain especially when the temperatures are above 80 degrees. Whereas, recycling your swimming pool is the best way to lower calcium and other hardness minerals out of swimming pools. Just this past week, we were called by a customer that had Calcium Hardness levels over 1240 parts per million (ppm),  5,850ppm Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), and Cyanuric Acid (CYA) measured at 60 ppm! A normal range for calcium in a swimming pool is 200-400 ppm and 30-50 ppm CYA so it’s no wonder they were having issues maintaining proper chemistry in the swimming pool and why calcium was scaling their tile, slide, and water features. For a reasonable price, we recycled their swimming pool water using our Reverse Osmosis (RO) mobile filtration system and left him with 140 ppm Calcium Hardness and 10 ppm CYA! If they were to drain and refill this pool the average Calcium Hardness coming out of the tap is 300 ppm and higher. Our process is quicker, safer than draining the pool and leaves our customers with the best water quality in their swimming pool.

Pool Water Recycling focus is the Orange County area but swimming pools are being drained all over the country for a variety of reasons: high calcium, high Total Dissolved Solids, high Cyanuric Acid, high phosphates and much more. We proudly serve both residential and commercial swimming pools. Since you can swim in the pool during filtration, it’s a great solution for commercial swimming pools because there is no downtime!
