Lowering High Calcium Hardness Levels in Phoenix Swimming Pools
As a residential and commercial swimming pool owner in Phoenix, you are going to be dealing with high levels of Calcium Hardness and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in your pools. We deal with it because our tap water in Phoenix is loaded with calcium, magnesium, and other hardness minerals. It has been said that we have some of the hardest water in the country which can make it more challenging to manage your pool. Since we constantly fill up our swimming pools due to evaporation with this hard water it will cause problems to your swimming pool. The most common problem is scaling to your water tile line, filtration equipment, and interior finish of the swimming pool.
Since we fill up our swimming pools with hard water, eventually the Calcium Hardness and TDS levels will increase to higher than recommended levels. It rises in concentration because as pool water evaporates the hardness minerals remain in the water and gradually build up in concentration. As time goes by eventually the water will get to a point where calcium scaling will occur on the water tile line, the interior finish, filtration equipment, spillways, decorative water features, and salt chlorinators if you have one. When this happens it can be tough to look at and even more challenging and expensive to remove. In the swimming pool industry, the normal levels of Calcium Hardness (CH) are between 200 – 400 parts per million (ppm), and TDS is recommended to be below 3000 ppm.
Reverse Osmosis To Lower Hardness Minerals In Swimming Pools
In our area, it isn’t uncommon to see swimming pools with calcium levels over 1000 ppm and TDS far over the recommended level. When that happens, most pool professionals will recommend a drain and refill. At Pool Water Recycling, we recommend recycling the swimming pool water using our Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration system because we can not only give you better water than tap but can also conserve up to 85% of the existing water in the pool as well.
With a combined fourteen years in the RO industry, we have had numerous successes lowering these hardness minerals along with Cyanuric Acid and so much more in the Greater Phoenix area! We have noticed that by using RO filtration the water quality is much better and it leads to a much better-looking swimming pool.
